We often say things are hard when what we really mean is things are painful. Decisions ... some of them we call hard, are really just painful. They're not hard. We already know the answer, there's no decision to make. Just sometimes, they're painful. I guess the trick is just ... you gotta ride it out, you get through it. The hard part is making yourself do that. Fear of pain is what immobilizes you.

  1. Penny,
This is so profound and you are absolutely right. I'm going to share this with a friend of mine who is going through a very difficult time. Nothing she wants to or needs to do is hard but emotionally, it is all very painful.

  2. I agree. Though sometimes the painful decision we are making or we feel we HAVE to make, say ending a struggling D/s situation, is not always the answer- it is painful but the fear of feeling more pain is greater so 'we' decide this is the right decision. In this example (not saying that is what you are referring too) it isn't the hard decision, in fact it is the easier one. One of my favourite quotes is from Anais Nin

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

    Just food for thought-

Anyway in a vanilla type world often the painful decisions, once made offer a sigh of relief. Good luck in whatever type you have to make
